Termite TV Collective - Living Documentary Project www.termite.org/livingdoc/livingdoc.html

"From August to December 1999, Termite TV Collective drove across the United States in a 1964 converted school bus equipped with cameras, an editing system, and a "documentary circus tent." The shows we produced -- "Living Documentaries" --- were shot and edited on the road and screened at media arts centers and exhibition venues we visited along the way. We collaborated with local artists, media makers, residents and fellow travelers. The resulting Living Documentaries cover a characteristically eclectic mix of themes: Money; Life Stories from Sitka, Alaska; Violent; Life Stories from the Borderlands; and Rollover."

The Screen Machine www.ssvc.com/cinema/screenmachine.htm

"The Screen Machine ? the UK’s only mobile cinema ? has proved a big hit with British soldiers in Bosnia. A month-long trial during which 60 screenings were staged in five locations has been voted a huge success.

Now the Ministry of Defence is to consider investing half a million pounds to buy its own mobile cinema to send the latest West End films to operational areas.

After a night at the movies in Banja Luka, LCpl Phil Abbott of the Royal Engineers said: "It's absolutely fantastic. I couldn’t think of a better thing to bring here." Air Trooper Chris Preston added: "I've been here since Christmas and it’s just the sort of thing we’ve been missing ? that extra something to get you out of your room to keep you occupied."

Mobile cinema to be revived www.poptel.org.uk/mozambique-news/newsletter/aim164.html#story9

"The Mozambican government intends to revive mobile cinema as a way of bringing information and entertainment to rural areas.

According to Jose Pereira, spokesman for the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, the government will encourage private operators interested in promoting mobile cinema, so that a variety of cultural and civic activities can reach areas where there are no televisions or video sets, let alone conventional cinemas.

There was a heavy stress on mobile cinema in the years immediately following Mozambican independence in 1975. In those days, mobile cinema was in the hands of a state body, the National Cinema Institute. However, the war of destabilisation brought an end to the service."

"solar powered sound system . . . wind powered cinema . . . and a van that runs on veggie oil that keeps the show on the road.

the roots of techno and the underground dance scene came out of revolutionary beginnings, such as reclaim the streets, squat and warehouse parties, open air free parties and festivals . . . like most things in todays world, dance parties have been commercialised, capitalised, and  corporatised. with the labrats solar powered sound system we want to bring the party scene back to its roots as a revolutionary force of beats and breaks . . . bleeps and squeaks in the face of authority that is destroying our environment and the people that depend on it for their survival.

by using solar power and other alternative technologies we are showing there is an alternative to the burning of fossil fuel and the use of nuclear reactors that are polluting our environment. by using these sustainable alternatives we can decentralise the power proving our independance in an environmentally friendly way.

music is a powerful metaphor when used for political change a road can be blocked . . . a piece of land can be reclaimed . . . a place of opression can become an autonoumous zone to the sound of music. dancing can change the world and the sun can provide the sounds . . ."

"May 24, 2000 - The 2000 Precious Moments Care-A-Van is ready to hit he road with its new driver, Gerald Larmon.

Larmon and his new cargo will travel more than 26,000 miles this year, taking the 53-foot museum on wheels across the country to awaiting fans. Larmon, who's also in charge of the maintenance of the 18-wheeler, will set up the mobile Precious Moments museum for each stop.

"I am looking forward to sharing the Precious Moments Care-A-Van message with thousands of people across America," he said.

Larmon's new position may be a challenge, but his background as a truck driving school instructor and limousine driver may help him along.

He will share his experiences on the road with his "Emails From Gerald" that will be posted on Enesco's web site (www.enesco.com). Larmon will share stories, photographs and highlights throughout his seven months on the road.

In addition to making several stops at various retail stores across the United States, the Care-A-Van will also travel to military bases and Special Olympic-sponsored events.

This year's Care-A-Van made its debut at the International Collectibles Exposition in Atlanta on May 4-7 and is now ready for its first scheduled stop on May 27 at a Special Olympics event in Atlanta."

Dutch Touch Mobile Tattooing & Piercing www.dutchtouchtattoo.com/Mobile/index.htm

"I started Dutch Touch Mobile over 4 years ago, an idea I came up with after I quit working at the Tattoo Gallery in Hillcrest.

I had pretty much worked at all the tattoo parlors that I wanted to work at in San Diego, and I wasn't happy. I decided that I  needed to open my own shop. The problem was that there were so many shops in San Diego, that when new shops were opening, they were closing down because of lack of business. I thought that if I opened a mobile unit, that I could do fairs, festivals, swap-meets and could tattoo and pierce people right outside their homes. I thought that it would be a good way to put me in the public's eye.

It worked out better than I could have ever imagined. I found an old 1970 motorhome that had potential. We replaced the carpet with easily washable tile, the cushions with washable vinyl, the 1970's old stained wood look was replaced with washable walls. Everything was painted white, and a pounding stereo was installed. It took 3 months of hard work, but the result was a modern tattoo studio on wheels, equipped with on board autoclave sterilization,
running water, and even bathroom facilities."
